Vermox is an antiparasitic agent for the treatment of ascariasis, enterobiasis, hookworm infections and trichocephaleses.

In the instructions to Vermox, the drug is indicated as an anthelmintic (antiparasitic) drug of a wide range of effects on parasites, with the most pronounced effect in enterobiasis and trichocephalosis.

The drug causes irreversible metabolic disorders in helminths: disrupts glucose utilization, reduces glycogen stores, inhibits the synthesis of cellular tubulin and ATP.

Vermox is not absorbed in the intestinal tract; when entering the bloodstream, it is distributed in adipose tissue, liver and the body of helminth larvae. It is metabolized in the liver to a 2-amino derivative and excreted by the kidneys. About 90% of the dose is excreted in the feces in its primary form.

Vermox is available in the form of tablets, in 1 package of 6 pieces. One tablet contains about 100 mg of active ingredient.

Indications for Vermox's use

The use of Vermox is possible with:

  • ascariasis (a parasitic disease caused by ascaris),
  • enterobiasis (a disease caused by pinworms),
  • hookworm disease (a disease caused by nematodes),
  • trichocephalosis (a parasitic disease caused by whipworms).

Instructions for the use of Vermox

The use of Vermox for enterobiasis - 100 mg (or 1 tablet) once. Duration of treatment is 3 days. In order to prevent re-infection, another course of treatment is taken after 2 weeks and after 4 weeks.

With ankylostomiasis, ascariasis, trichocephalosis or mixed helminthiasis, Vermox is prescribed for children over 12 months old and for adults, 100 mg twice a day (preferably in the morning and evening). The course of therapy is 3 days.

With strongyloidosis and teniasis, adults are recommended to take 200 mg twice a day, the course of therapy is 3 days. For children, a single dose is 100 mg, taken twice a day, the duration of treatment is 3 days.

Side effects

According to reviews about Vermox due to taking the drug, the following side effects of the drug may occur:

  • dyspeptic disorders - nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea,
  • dizziness,
  • allergic reactions (rash, hives, edema),
  • increased level of transaminases in the blood, leukopenia, anemia,

  • fetal developmental defects.

Overdose

In the case of taking the drug in a dose exceeding that specified in the instructions for Vermox, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea occur.

Taking large doses for a long time can lead to liver dysfunction (hepatitis, neutropenia).

Treatment of drug overdose: it is necessary to flush the stomach by inducing vomiting or with an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate (20 mg per 100 ml of water) and take activated charcoal.

Contraindications to the use of Vermox

The appointment of Vermox for children under 2 years of age, people with hypersensitivity to one of its components, patients with ulcerative colitis, patients with Crohn's disease or liver failure is contraindicated. The drug is not taken with breastfeeding.

During pregnancy, Vermox is used with caution.

Interaction with medicinal products

According to reviews of Vermox, it can cause symptoms of hypoglycemia in diabetic patients, so the dose of insulin is reduced. Vermox should not be taken together with lipophilic substances, laxatives, alcoholic beverages and fatty foods.

Precautionary measures

With too long use of the drug, it is necessary to control changes in peripheral blood, liver and kidney function.

When treating with Vermox, the use of alcohol, fatty foods is prohibited; at the same time, a laxative is not prescribed.
