Release form and composition

Dosage form - solution for local and external use: colorless, transparent, odorless (40 or 100 ml in a bottle, in a cardboard box 1 bottle).

Composition of 100 ml solution:

active substance: medical hydrogen peroxide - 7.5-11 g [depending on the actual content of hydrogen peroxide in the original substance is equivalent to the content of hydrogen peroxide - 3 g (from 30 to 40%)];
auxiliary components: sodium benzoate, purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Hydrogen peroxide is an antiseptic, belongs to the group of antioxidants. The action of the drug is due to the release of active oxygen at the time of its contact with damaged areas of the skin or mucous membrane, which leads to softening and separation of necrotic tissue areas, as well as clots of pus and blood. It does not have a sterilizing effect, the decrease in the number of microorganisms under its influence is temporary. In addition, abundant foaming leads to a cessation of bleeding from small vessels.

inflammation of the mucous membranes;
purulent wounds;
capillary bleeding from superficial wounds;
nosebleeds.

Also, the agent is used for disinfection and deodorization for tonsillitis, angina, stomatitis, gynecological diseases.

Contraindications

According to the instructions, hydrogen peroxide is contraindicated for persons with increased sensitivity to its components.

Relative contraindications are hyperthyroidism, decompensated kidney and liver diseases, dermatitis herpetiformis.

Instructions for the use of hydrogen peroxide: method and dosage

According to indications, hydrogen peroxide is used externally, treating damaged surfaces with a cotton or gauze swab (it should be held with tweezers) dipped in a solution of the drug. Jet irrigation of the treated surface is allowed.

When applied on the skin, use a 1-3% solution, on the mucous membranes and when rinsing the throat - 0.25% solution (to obtain it, dilute a 3% solution with water in a ratio of 1:11).

Allergic reactions may occur, as well as burning sensation during surface treatment.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms: irritation of the upper respiratory tract (burns, laryngospasm). In case of ingestion of the drug, irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, hemoglobinuria, hemolysis is possible. The lethal dose of the drug is 3 g.

Recommended gastric lavage with 0.5% sodium thiosulfate solution, sodium bicarbonate solutions, intravenous administration of sodium thiosulfate 30% at a dose of up to 300 ml.
