Contusion
The name of the pathological state of the organism, contusion, comes from the Latin word contusion and literally means "bruise". A general contusion is a contusion of the entire body or most of its surface. The indispensable consequences of contusion are - amnesia, loss of consciousness, dizziness, headaches, speech and hearing impairments. After a severe concussion, the impact on the human body is unpredictable, possibly the onset of deafness or deep prolonged coma.
In some cases, this medical term is used in general, to denote a contusion of any organ, without indicating it, for example, when we mean an eye contusion or a brain contusion.
Causes of the contusion
The causes of the contusion are the traumatic effects on the human body resulting from an extensive injury, with an explosive wave of significant force, powerful changes in atmospheric pressure, strong vibration, etc.
A general shock contusion is possible when a person falls from a great height, when the body hits the water surface flat, as well as when blockages are made with dense heavy masses (sand, stones, etc.).
Concussion symptoms
It is quite difficult to imagine how you can get a bruise of absolutely the whole body (from the top of the head to the very heels). However, it is precisely a bruise that is essentially the result of the impact of a powerful blast wave on the human body. In an explosion, the air surrounding a person comes into contact with the surface of the body with tremendous force. The impact force is more or less uniform, but not all human organs can withstand it equally. The human nervous system and the brain in particular suffer the most, with various consequences of conusion.
In this regard, the most important symptom of even a mild concussion is a mandatory loss of consciousness, lasting from several seconds to several hours (and even days). A mild concussion is not accompanied by any other symptoms other than loss of consciousness. If you receive a particularly severe concussion, a person may die without regaining consciousness. Also, with severe contusions, disorders of the functioning of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems join the characteristic symptoms, sometimes leading to a complete cessation of breathing and death.
The resulting severe contusions, as a rule, are combined with serious traumatic injuries - bone fractures (ribs, limbs, etc.), concussion, ruptures and bruises of internal organs (liver, kidneys, spleen).
Contusion treatment
As such, the treatment of concussion is primarily to ensure and maintain the functions of the injured person's vital functions while he is unconscious. A shell-shocked person who has lost consciousness is completely helpless and can die, choking even in a small puddle of water.
It is necessary to lay the shell-shocked person face up. If the victim has clear signs of impaired respiratory activity, it is necessary to urgently start the artificial respiration procedure. First you need to make sure that no earth, sand, etc. have accumulated in the patient's nose and mouth. (which often happens with an explosion). If the teeth of the victim of the contusion are tightly compressed, while he is unconscious, the first aid provider should unclench them on his own using any improvised means - a stick of a suitable size, a knife, etc. After that, it is necessary to clean the nasopharynx from dirt, first with a finger, and then with a suitable piece of clean cloth. Next, you should proceed directly to artificial respiration "mouth to mouth". The use of direct massage of the heart through the chest is excluded, since further injury to damaged internal organs and displacement of broken bones is possible.
The resulting contusion, if not classified as too severe, and does not lead to immediate death, as a rule, quickly passes. Concussion can also be treated quite well. Consequences after concussion - nervous system disorders, stuttering and hearing impairments are also effectively treated.
