Pain in the buttocks worries, what to do

The development of any pathological process in the body is characterized by a number of clinical manifestations. One of them is pain syndrome, the intensity and localization of which often become an important diagnostic tool. However, the place of occurrence of an unpleasant sensation and its source do not always coincide. For example, pain in the buttock can indicate a variety of ailments.

Pain in the buttock

The buttocks are symmetrical parts of the body and represent, figuratively speaking, a "layer cake". The first, top layer is leather. The second is the tissues of the left and right gluteal muscles, respectively. The third layer is represented by subcutaneous fat, which is located directly under the muscles and, in comparison with other parts of the body, is the most developed.

Pain in the buttock can occur as an independent symptom, and in any of the layers. It is often the result of trauma, a limited inflammatory process, or other disease. In this case, both a local reaction of the body and a general one are possible, the signs of which are weakness, malaise, and an increase in body temperature.

Quite often, painful sensations are reflex - pain radiating to the buttock often occurs with pathologies of organs and systems in the immediate vicinity of this part of the body.

Pain in the buttock, causes

The localization of pain in the buttock may not always reliably indicate their true source. To make a correct diagnosis, it is often necessary to conduct a thorough medical examination. This is primarily due to a large number of pathological conditions that cause a reflex reaction in a given part of the body.

Despite the different sources of buttock pain, the causes of pain can be divided into the following main groups:

  • Deformities and diseases of the spine, especially of its lower parts. Pain radiating to the buttock is a frequent companion of scoliosis, lumbosacral osteochondrosis, as well as intervertebral hernias in the lumbar region;
  • Local purulent-inflammatory processes. The defeat of the subcutaneous fat in the buttocks can be both diffuse - with phlegmon, and limited - with abscesses and boils;
  • Sciatic nerve neuralgia - sciatica. The spastic condition of the gluteus muscles can cause compression of the largest nerve in the body. The result is a pulling pain in the buttocks, radiating to the legs;
  • Diseases of the joints, primarily of the hip. Pathologies can occur due to inflammation or as a result of degenerative changes. With joint damage, one of the symptoms is pain that radiates to the buttock;
  • Circulatory disorders. Nutritional problems in the gluteal muscles are often caused by atherosclerosis. Prolonged sitting, for example, in transport, also leads to obstruction of blood flow, as a result of which pain in the buttocks radiates to the legs.

Buttock pain treatment

Since painful sensations can either arise directly in the buttock itself, or be a reflex response to damage to other organs and systems of the body, the therapeutic effect is aimed at relieving pain syndrome and, if possible, eliminating the source of its occurrence. In most cases, therapeutic methods are used for this.

These include: massage, physiotherapy, warming compresses. In addition, the treatment of pain in the buttock involves the use of anti-inflammatory drugs. With local purulent processes, bandages with ichthyol ointment or Vishnevsky's ointment are applied to the affected areas. In the absence of a therapeutic effect, ulcers, most often abscesses and boils, require radical action. They are subject to autopsy, after which the patient's condition improves.

One of the causes of pain in the buttock is muscle spasm, so treatment should include special exercises aimed at relaxing the injured muscles. This helps to normalize blood circulation in the affected area. Physical education is simply necessary for spinal deformities, since they cause a violation of muscle tone, which leads to pain syndrome.

The best prevention of buttock pain, like all other muscles in the body, is optimal physical activity. Systematic exercise helps to maintain the tone of the body and its normal functioning. If the work involves maintaining a static position for a long time, you should regularly do small warm-ups. If you experience pain in the buttock, you should consult a doctor who will determine the cause and prescribe an effective treatment.
