- auxiliary components: benzethonium chloride, sodium chloride, citric acid monohydrate, sodium citrate pentasesquihydrate, water for injection.
Pharmacological properties
Proxophelin is a combined antiglaucoma drug with a vasodilating effect.
The mechanism of action of the drug is due to the property of the active components, to suppress the production of aqueous humor and to increase its outflow, which leads to a decrease in intraocular pressure.
After instillation, the therapeutic effect occurs in 1 / 4-1 / 2 hours, after 2-6 hours it reaches a maximum and lasts 24 hours. The drug does not affect the size of the pupil, accommodation or refraction.
Indications for use
The use of Proxofelin is indicated for various forms of glaucoma (open-angle, closed-angle, secondary) to reduce intraocular pressure in cases where monotherapy with proxodolol or clonidine does not have a sufficient effect.
For angle-closure glaucoma, the drug should be prescribed in combination with miotic agents.
Contraindications

- chronic heart failure;
- atrioventricular block II – III degree;
- bradycardia;
- arterial hypotension;
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;

Proxofelin, instructions for use: method and dosage
Eye drops Proxofelin are used by instillation into the conjunctival sac of the eye.
Recommended dosage: 1 drop 2 times a day.
When prescribing the drug in combination with pilocarpine, pilocarpine should be instilled 1-3 times a day.
Side effects
Against the background of instillations, in isolated cases, undesirable phenomena such as dry mouth, weakness, drowsiness, dizziness, a decrease in blood pressure (BP) or a slowdown in heart rate may appear.
Overdose
- symptoms: increased severity of side effects;
- treatment: immediate withdrawal of the drug.
special instructions
Do not touch the eye with the dropper tip. After each procedure, the dropper tube must be tightly closed.
It is recommended to stop wearing soft contact lenses during the treatment period.
If rigid lenses are used, they should be removed and put on again no earlier than 15–20 minutes after the procedure before instillation.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
During the period of treatment, caution should be exercised in patients whose activities require visual acuity. If, after instillation, the clarity and sharpness of visual perception is temporarily lost, it is required to refrain from driving or working with complex equipment.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The use of Proxofelin is contraindicated during gestation and lactation.
If it is necessary to prescribe drops to a pregnant woman, the doctor must balance the expected benefits for her with the potential risk to the fetus / newborn.
There is insufficient data on the penetration of proxodolol and / or clonidine into human breast milk, therefore, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding during treatment.
Pediatric use
Due to the lack of sufficient experience with the use of Proxofelin in pediatric practice, the appointment of the drug in childhood is contraindicated.
Drug interactions
With the simultaneous use of Proxofelin with 1% pilocarpine solution, the hypotensive effect is enhanced by the value of intraocular pressure.
Concomitant therapy with systemic alpha or beta blockers may contribute to a more pronounced antihypertensive effect.
Analogs
Proxofelin analogues are Fotil, Cosopt, Timolol, Betoptik, Pilocarpin, Xalatan, Dorzopt Plus and others.
