Urosulfan belongs to the group of sulfa drugs. The active ingredient is sulfacarbamide. The drug has an antimicrobial effect on gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Urosulfan is especially active against E. coli and staphylococci. This drug has a bacteriostatic effect, blocking the absorption of para-aminobenzoic acid by microorganisms, disrupting the synthesis of folic acid, which is necessary for the formation of purine and pyrimidine compounds. As a result, the growth and development of the bacterial cell stops, and instead of PABA, the cell of the microorganism captures the sulfanilamide drug.
Urosulfan is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, a fairly high concentration of the drug is created in the blood plasma. The drug is excreted from the body mainly by the kidneys. A high concentration of Urosulfan in urine has an antibacterial effect on microorganisms that cause urinary tract infections. Deposition of the drug in the urinary tract does not occur.
Indications for Urosulfan's use
The instructions for Urosulfan indicate that this drug is used for purulent infectious diseases of the urinary system:
- cystitis (inflammation of the bladder);
- pyelitis (inflammation in the renal pelvis);
- cystopyelitis (a combination of inflammation in the renal pelvis and bladder);

- infected hydronephrosis.
Contraindications to the use of Urosulfan

Method of application, dosage of Urosulfan

It is not recommended to prescribe Urosulfan simultaneously with anesthesin, novocaine, drugs containing folic acid, as the therapeutic effect decreases. Joint reception of Urosulfan with butadione, chloramphenicol, butamide, bukarban, anticoagulants, cytostatics, immunosuppressants can lead to increased side effects. Urosulfan also enhances the effect of hypoglycemic and anticonvulsants.
The use of Urosulfan during pregnancy
This drug should be used with extreme caution during pregnancy. During lactation, if it is necessary to use Urosulfan, natural feeding should be stopped for a while.

Urosulfan is available in tablet form. One tablet contains 0.5 g of active ingredient. The package contains 12 tablets.
