Release form and composition
Dosage form - lyophilisate for the preparation of a solution for intramuscular administration: white or white with a yellowish tinge porous mass / powder (11 mg each in 3 ml vials, 5 vials in a blister strip, 2 packs in a cardboard box).
Composition of 1 bottle:
- active substance: cortexin (a complex of water-soluble polypeptide fractions with a molecular weight of not more than 10,000 Da) - 5 mg;
- excipient: glycine (stabilizer).
Pharmacological properties
The preparation contains a complex of low molecular weight water-soluble polypeptide fractions capable of penetrating the blood-brain barrier to nerve cells. Cortexin activates peptides of neurons and neurotrophic factors of the brain, optimizes the balance of the metabolism of excitatory and inhibitory amino acids, serotonin, dopamine. It has a GABA-ergic effect, lowers the paroxysmal convulsive activity of the brain, improves its bioelectric activity, and prevents the formation of free radicals.
It has nootropic, neuroprotective, antioxidant and tissue-specific effects.
Indications for use
The drug is used as part of complex therapy in the following conditions:
- violation of cerebral circulation;
- consequences of traumatic brain injury;
- encephalopathy (of various etiology);
- cognitive impairment (disorder of thinking and memory);
- encephalitis and encephalomyelitis (acute and chronic);
- epilepsy;
- suprasegmental autonomic disorders;
- reduced ability to learn;
- delayed psychomotor and speech development;
- cerebral palsy.
Contraindications
According to the instructions, Cortexin for children is contraindicated in the presence of its individual intolerance.
Instructions for the use of Cortexin for children: method and dosage
The drug is administered intramuscularly, once a day, after dissolving the contents of the bottle in 1–2 ml of water for injection, 0.5% procaine solution (novocaine) or 0.9% sodium chloride solution. To avoid foaming during dissolution of the lyophilisate, the needle is directed to the wall of the vial.
Recommended dosages of Cortexin for children:
- body weight up to 20 kg: 0.5 mg / kg / day;
- body weight over 20 kg: 10 mg / day.
The duration of therapy is 10 days. Repeated courses are allowed in 3–6 months.
Side effects
Individual hypersensitivity may occur.
