Release form and composition
Cormentol is produced in the form of sublingual capsules: soft gelatinous, oval, from pale yellow to pale brownish yellow; the contents of the capsules are colorless or with a yellow tinge transparent oily liquid with a menthol smell (15 pcs. in a blister, 1 blister in a cardboard box).
1 capsule contains:
- active substance: levomenthol solution in menthil isovalerate - 100 mg;
- additional components: refined olive oil, alpha-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E);
- capsule shell: methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), gelatin, glycerol, purified water.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Cormentol is a drug that has a sedative, as well as a moderate reflex coronary dilatory effect due to irritation of sensitive nerve endings. The agent stimulates the production and release of endorphins, enkephalins and a number of other peptides, as well as kinins and histamine, which play an important role in the regulation of vascular permeability and the manifestation of pain.
The therapeutic effect is observed approximately 5 minutes after taking the drug.
Pharmacokinetics
When administered sublingually (placed under the tongue), levomenthol is absorbed from the oral mucosa and then biotransformed in the liver and excreted as glucuronides in the urine.
Indications for use
- neuroses;
- functional cardialgia;
- seasickness and air sickness (as an antiemetic).
Contraindications
- acute disorders of cerebral circulation;
- severe arterial hypotension;
- acute myocardial infarction;
- age up to 18 years;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Instructions for the use of Cormentol: method and dosage
Kormentol capsules are taken under the tongue 2-3 times a day, 1 capsule, holding it under the tongue until completely absorbed.
The frequency of admission and the duration of treatment is determined depending on the achieved effect. If the therapeutic effect of the drug is not pronounced enough or in some patients within 5 minutes after taking the capsule the desired result is not observed, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
Side effects
When using the drug, the following adverse reactions may develop: dizziness, drowsiness, a short decrease in blood pressure, abdominal discomfort, nausea, lacrimation. These disorders usually go away on their own, are short-lived and do not require discontinuation of therapy.
Rarely, the occurrence of allergic reactions in the form of itching, skin rash, angioedema can be observed.

Overdose

When used in combination with levomenthol, it is possible to enhance the action of antihypertensive drugs and the sedative effect of opioid analgesics, psychotropic drugs, ethanol, drugs for anesthesia and local anesthesia.
When combined with nitrates, the severity of the headache arising from the use of the latter decreases.
