Clotrimazole-Teva is an antifungal drug for external use.

Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of a cream for external use 1%: a homogeneous mass of white (30 g each in aluminum tubes, 1 tube in a cardboard box and instructions for use of Clotrimazole-Teva).

100 g of cream contains:

  • active substance: clotrimazole - 1 g;
  • auxiliary components: benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol (60% cetyl alcohol and 40% stearyl alcohol), cetyl palmitate, sorbitan stearate, 2-octyldodecanol, polysorbate-60, purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Clotrimazole-Teva is an antifungal drug for external use with a wide spectrum of action. Its antimycotic effect is due to the properties of the active substance - clotrimazole, which is an imidazole derivative.

The mechanism of action of the drug is associated with a change in the permeability of the cell membrane of fungi as a result of impaired synthesis of ergosterol, which leads to cell lysis. The effect of clotrimazole depends on its concentration: low concentrations of the drug are fungistatic, high - fungicidal. At high concentrations, clotrimazole interacts with mitochondrial and peroxidase enzymes, which is accompanied by an increase in the content of hydrogen peroxide to a toxic level, potentiating the destruction of fungal cells.

Dermatophytes, yeast-like and mold fungi, the causative agent of erythrasma and varicoloured lichen Pityriasis versicolor (Malassezia furfur) are susceptible to the drug. Clotrimazole has an antimicrobial effect against gram-positive (streptococci, staphylococci) and gram-negative microorganisms (Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides), is active against Trichomonas vaginalis (Trichomonas vaginalis).

Pharmacokinetics

When applied externally, clotrimazole poorly penetrates the skin and mucous membranes, therefore it practically does not have a systemic effect. In the deep layers of the epidermis, the level of its content is higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration for dermatophytes. In the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, the concentration of clotrimazole is lower than in the epidermis.

Indications for use

  • erythrasma, pityriasis versicolor, superficial candidiasis caused by pathogens sensitive to clotrimazole, including dermatophytes, yeasts (including the genus Candida), molds and other fungi;
  • fungal skin diseases, mycoses of the feet, skin folds;
  • complicated by secondary pyoderma mycoses.

Contraindications

Clotrimazole-Teva cream is contraindicated to be applied to the skin in the eye area, used in the first trimester of pregnancy and used for the treatment of patients with identified hypersensitivity to the drug components.

Care should be taken to prescribe an antimycotic agent during lactation.

Clotrimazole-Teva, instructions for use: method and dosage

Clotrimazole-Teva cream is intended for external use by applying a thin layer to the affected area of the skin, followed by gentle rubbing.

The area of application must be pre-cleaned with soap with a neutral acidity value and dried well. Recommended frequency of procedures: 2-3 times a day.

The course of treatment depends on the severity and location of the disease. With dermatomycosis, the course should last at least 4 weeks, pityriasis versicolor - 1-3 weeks. After elimination of the symptoms of fungal diseases of the skin of the legs, the use of the cream should be continued for at least 2 more weeks.

In the absence of a therapeutic effect after using the drug for 28 days, the diagnosis should be clarified.

special instructions

The manifestation of irritation or symptoms of hypersensitivity requires discontinuation of therapy.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

The use of Clotrimazole-Teva in the first trimester of pregnancy is contraindicated.

With caution, only as directed by a doctor, you should use the drug when breastfeeding. Do not apply the cream directly to the breast during lactation.
