Lozap is a pharmacological drug from the group of angiotensin II receptor antagonists used to treat hypertension.

Composition and form of release

Lozap is available in tablets (dosage 12.5 and 50 mg). The active ingredient is losartan. According to the instructions, Lozap tablets contain the following auxiliary components: microcrystalline cellulose, mannitol, colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, talc, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol, titanium dioxide.

Lozap tablets are oval, biconvex, film-coated. The drug is produced in blisters of 10 tablets. In a cardboard package there can be 3, 6 or 9 plastic blisters with instructions.

Pharmacological action Lozap

According to the instructions, Lozap refers to specific antagonists of angiotensin II receptors and has an antihypertensive effect. The drug reduces the total peripheral vascular resistance, lowers blood pressure, reduces the load on the heart muscle, reduces the content of adrenaline and aldosterone in the blood, has a diuretic effect. Lozap increases exercise tolerance in patients with signs of chronic heart failure and prevents myocardial hypertrophy.

After a single dose of Lozap, the maximum hypotensive effect develops after 6 hours and gradually decreases within 24 hours. With constant administration of the drug, the maximum hypotensive effect will occur 3-6 weeks after the start of Lozap.

The use of Lozap in patients with arterial hypertension and proteinuria of more than 2 g / day significantly reduces the loss of protein in the urine, the excretion of albumin and immunoglobulins. At a dosage of up to 150 mg per day, Lozap does not affect the level of glucose in the blood (fasting) and lipid profile.

After oral administration, Lozap is well absorbed, metabolized in the liver. The bioavailability of the drug is 33%. The drug and its metabolites are excreted mainly through the intestines and kidneys.

Lozap practically does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier.

Indications for use

Lozap is used to treat hypertension. Also, the drug is indicated as part of a complex treatment in patients with chronic heart failure, with diabetic nephropathy (with hypercreatininemia and proteinuria). According to the instructions, Lozap can be used to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular complications in patients with essential hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.

Contraindications to the use of Lozap

Lozapa is contraindicated in such cases:

• hypersensitivity to losartan and other components of the drug;
• age up to 18 years (clinical studies on the safety of use in this group have not been performed);
• pregnancy and lactation.

With caution, Lozap is used for violations of water and electrolyte metabolism, with bilateral stenosis of the renal arteries, or stenosis of the renal artery of a single kidney, as well as with signs of renal or hepatic failure.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Clinical studies on the use of Lozap during pregnancy have not been conducted. It should be noted that it is a known fact that drugs that act on the angiotensin-aldosterone system have a teratogenic effect (cause malformations and even fetal death). If pregnancy occurs while using Lozap, then it should be canceled immediately. During lactation, the drug is also not recommended for use.

Dosing and Administration Lozap

This drug is taken orally once a day, there is no dependence of the time of intake on food consumption.

In the treatment of arterial hypertension, the average dose of Lozap is 50 mg. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 100 mg.

With chronic heart failure, it is recommended to take Lozap at 12.5 mg per day. The dose can be increased (at weekly intervals) if the drug is well tolerated.

If a patient with heart failure receives large doses of diuretics (diuretics), then the Lozap dose is reduced to 25 mg per day.

Patients with impaired renal and hepatic function, as well as elderly patients, are recommended a lower initial dose of this drug (25 mg per day).

Side effect

Lozap overdose

In case of an overdose of this drug, there may be a pronounced decrease in blood pressure, tachycardia (less often bradycardia). Treatment consists in the appointment of symptomatic treatment, the use of forced diuresis. Hemodialysis with Lozapom overdose is not effective.

Interaction with other medicinal products

According to the instructions, Lozap can be combined with other antihypertensive drugs, it mutually enhances the effect of sympatholytics and beta-adrenal locators.

With the combined use of Lozap and diuretics, an increase in the action of both drugs is noted.

When taken simultaneously with digoxin, hydrochlorothiazide, warfarin, cimetidine, phenobarbital, erythromycin and ketoconazole, no pharmacological interaction was found. According to reviews, Lozap goes well with these drugs, without causing any symptoms.

The use of Lozap together with potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, amiloride, triamterene) increases the risk of hyperkalemia.

In patients with cirrhosis of the liver, the concentration of this drug in the blood increases, so you need to use it in lower doses.
