Recommended doses:

  • adults and adolescents from 10 years old - 5-10 mg (13-27 drops);
  • children 4-10 years old - 2.5-5 mg (7-13 drops);
  • children under 4 years old - 0.25 mg / kg (at the rate of 2 drops for every 3 kg of body weight).

The duration of treatment is set individually. In adults, it should not exceed 10 days. It is advisable for children to limit the course of therapy to three days.

Pills

  • adults and adolescents from 10 years old - 5–10 mg 1 time per day, in some cases it is allowed to increase the dose to 15 mg;

The duration of treatment is set individually. In adults, it should not exceed 10 days. It is advisable for children to limit the course of therapy to three days.

Side effects

With a short-term intake of Guttasil, side effects are extremely rare.

With long-term treatment, especially in the case of taking high doses, the following undesirable effects are possible:

  • from the digestive system: pain in the stomach and anus, abdominal cramps and pain, nausea, flatulence, vomiting, increased intestinal motility, diarrhea and other dyspeptic phenomena (these reactions disappear after a decrease in the dose of the drug);
  • on the part of the water-electrolyte balance: dehydration, loss of electrolytes (including sodium and potassium);
  • from the central nervous system: drowsiness, increased fatigue, headache, fainting, convulsions;
  • from the immune system: hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema;
  • on the part of the skin: skin rashes, itching, urticaria.

In case of an overdose, the following symptoms are possible: diarrhea, abdominal cramps, ischemia of the mucous membrane of the large intestine, serious violations of the water and electrolyte balance, convulsions. Long-term overdose is fraught with the development of chronic abdominal pain and diarrhea, hypokalemia and muscle weakness, secondary hyperaldosteronism, metabolic alkalosis, nephrolithiasis, and kidney damage. When taking a dose exceeding the recommended one, you should induce vomiting, make a gastric lavage and take an enterosorbent (for example, activated carbon). Further treatment is symptomatic (use of antispasmodic drugs, correction of violations of water and electrolyte balance).

special instructions

Like other laxatives, Guttasil is not intended for daily or long-term use. An adult should not take the drug for more than 10 days without consulting a doctor. If it becomes necessary to drink a laxative every day, the patient should undergo an appropriate examination to establish the cause of constipation. Long-term use of a laxative can lead to hypokalemia, electrolyte imbalance and loss of body fluids, as well as cause "rebound" constipation and the development of addiction.

Special clinical studies on the effect of sodium picosulfate on the reaction rate and the ability to concentrate have not been conducted. However, it should be borne in mind that with a vasovagal reaction (with intestinal spasm), dizziness and even fainting may occur. In this case, patients should refrain from potentially hazardous activities, including driving vehicles and operating complex mechanisms.

Drug interactions

Guttasil can cause electrolyte imbalances, which may lead to an increase in sensitivity to cardiac glycosides.

Glucocorticosteroids and diuretics, when administered simultaneously, can increase the severity of hypokalemia caused by sodium picosulfate used in high doses.

Antibiotics reduce the laxative effect of the drug.

Analogs of Guttasil are: Laxigal, Guttalaks, Slabilen, Regulax Picosulfate.
