Ginkoum is an angioprotective phytopreparation for improving cerebral circulation and enhancing the supply of oxygen and glucose to the brain; has a vasoregulatory effect mainly on the blood vessels of the brain, prevents platelet aggregation, improves blood flow, is a natural antioxidant.
Release form and composition
Ginkoum dosage form - hard gelatin capsules:
- 40 mg: size No. 1, shell from light to dark brown; filler - powder or slightly crumpled powder from yellow to light brown (15 pcs. in blisters, in a cardboard box 1, 2, 3 or 4 packages; 30 or 60 pcs. in polymer cans, in a cardboard box 1 bank);
- 80 mg: size # 0, brown sheath; filler - powder or slightly crumpled powder from yellow to light brown, the presence of whitish and dark inclusions is allowed (15 pcs. in blisters, in a cardboard box 2, 4 or 6 packages).
Composition for 1 capsule:
- active ingredient: ginkgo biloba extract dry standardized with a content of flavonol glycosides 22-27% and terpene lactones 5-12% - 40 or 80 mg;
- auxiliary ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, calcium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide (for capsules 80 mg);
- capsule body: iron oxide red, iron oxide yellow, iron oxide black, titanium dioxide, gelatin.
Indications for use
Ginkoum is taken to treat the following disorders:
- violation of cerebral circulation (accompanied by memory impairment, attention disorder, decreased mental abilities, tinnitus, headache, dizziness);
- violation of microcirculation with a disorder of peripheral circulation (accompanied by pain when walking, a feeling of coldness in the extremities, paresthesia, heaviness in the legs and painful cramps);
- dysfunction of the inner ear (accompanied by an unstable gait, dizziness, tinnitus).
Contraindications
- blood clotting disorders;
- peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer in the acute stage;
- erosive gastritis;
- ONMK (acute cerebrovascular accident);
- the period of pregnancy and lactation (there are not enough clinical observations of the use of the drug during this period);
- age up to 12 years (there are not enough clinical observations of the use of the drug in this age category).
Method of administration and dosage
Ginkoum capsules are taken orally, regardless of mealtime, swallowing whole and drinking plenty of fluids.
The recommended dosing regimen in the absence of other doctor's prescriptions:
- disorder of cerebral circulation (symptomatic therapy): daily dose - 160-240 mg of standardized dry extract of ginkgo biloba, 1 capsule 80 mg or 2 capsules 40 mg 2-3 times a day, therapeutic course - at least 8 weeks; after 3 months from the start of taking the drug, the doctor must decide on the need for further treatment;
- peripheral circulatory disorders: daily dose - 160 mg of standardized dry extract of ginkgo biloba, 1 capsule 80 mg or 2 capsules 40 mg 2 times a day, therapeutic course - at least 6 weeks;
- vascular or involutional pathology of the inner ear: daily dose - 160 mg of standardized dry extract of ginkgo biloba, 1 capsule 80 mg or 2 capsules 40 mg 2 times a day, therapeutic course - 6-8 weeks.
If the next dose of the drug is missed or an insufficient amount is taken, the subsequent administration is carried out as directed without any changes.
Side effects
- from the digestive system: extremely rarely - dyspepsia (nausea / vomiting, diarrhea);
- on the part of the hemostatic system: extremely rarely - slowing down blood clotting, bleeding (in case of prolonged use of the drug in patients who were simultaneously taking medications to reduce blood clotting);
- hypersensitivity reactions: extremely rarely - edema, skin hyperemia, pruritus;
- other reactions: very rarely - dizziness, headache, insomnia, hearing impairment.
To date, no cases of drug overdose have been reported.

It is required to strictly follow all the prescriptions of the attending physician and this instruction.
If your hearing suddenly deteriorates or is lost, you should immediately consult a doctor, whose advice is also needed in case of frequent dizziness and tinnitus (tinnitus).
Due to the fact that preparations containing ginkgo biloba extract can slow down blood clotting, Ginkoum should be discontinued before the planned surgery and the doctor should be informed about the duration of the previous course.
On the background of therapy with Ginkgo biloba drugs, patients with epilepsy may expect epileptic seizures.
During therapy, care must be taken when performing potentially hazardous types of work that require increased concentration of attention and increased speed of psychomotor reactions, including work with moving machinery and driving.
Drug interactions
Acetylsalicylic acid (with constant use), anticoagulants (direct and indirect), drugs that reduce blood clotting, are not recommended to be used simultaneously with Ginkgo biloba extract, since such combinations increase the risk of bleeding.
