Biosulin R is a short-acting insulin.
Release form and composition
The drug is produced in the form of a solution for injection: transparent or almost transparent, colorless or almost colorless (5 or 10 ml in colorless glass bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box; 5 or 10 ml each in colorless glass bottles, 2, 3 each, 5 vials in blister contour packages, 1 package in a cardboard box; 3 ml each in colorless glass cartridges for use with a syringe pen Biosulin Pen or Biomatic Pen, 1, 3 or 5 pcs. The main active ingredient is genetically engineered human insulin (soluble), in 1 ml of the drug - 100 IU.
Auxiliary components: metacresol, glycerol and water for injection.
Indications for use
Biosulin R is used for the following diseases:
- Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type 1);
- Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (type 2), including at the stage of resistance to oral hypoglycemic agents or with partial resistance to these drugs, with intercurrent diseases (as a combination therapy);
- Diabetes mellitus, accompanied by decompensation of carbohydrate metabolism, requiring urgent intervention.
Contraindications
The use of Biosulin R is contraindicated in hypoglycemia and individual intolerance to insulin or other components of the drug.
Method of administration and dosage
Biosulin R is administered intravenously, intramuscularly or subcutaneously half an hour before a meal containing carbohydrates.
The dosage of the drug is prescribed individually by the doctor based on the blood glucose level. The average daily dose of the drug is 0.5-1 IU per 1 kg of body weight.
The temperature of the insulin injected should be room temperature. In monotherapy, the drug is administered 3 times a day (if necessary, up to 6 times a day). If the daily dose exceeds 0.6 IU per 1 kg of body weight, two injections are made in different areas of the body.
Biosulin R is most often injected subcutaneously into the anterior abdominal wall, as well as into the thigh, shoulder muscles and buttocks. Periodically, it is necessary to change the injection site to avoid the occurrence of lipodystrophy.
Intramuscularly or intravenously, the drug is administered only under medical supervision.
Side effects
The use of Biosulin R can cause the following side effects:
- Allergic reactions: skin rash, Quincke's edema, anaphylactic shock;
- Local reactions: itching and swelling at the injection site, hyperemia; with repeated introduction to the same place at the injection site, lipodystrophy may occur;
- Hypoglycemic conditions: pallor of the skin, increased sweating, hunger, tremors of the extremities, heart palpitations, headache, paresthesia in the mouth, agitation (severe hypoglycemia can lead to hypoglycemic coma);
- Edema, refractive error.

Oral hypoglycemic drugs, ACE inhibitors, MAOs, carbonic anhydrase, bromocriptine, sulfonamides, nonselective beta-blockers, tetracyclines, anabolic steroids, ketoconazole, clofibrate, mebendazole, cyclophosphamide, lithium drugs that enhance the action and ethanol-furaminohydramine.
Oral contraceptives, thyroid hormones, GCS, thiazide diuretics, morphine, diazoxide, nicotine, phenytoin, clonidine, danazol, tricyclic antidepressants, heparin, sympathomimetics and calcium channel blockers weaken the hypoglycemic effect of insulin.
Reserpine and salicylates can both enhance and weaken the effect of insulin.
