Betaloc is a drug with antiarrhythmic and hypotensive effects.

Release form and composition

Betaloc dosage forms:

  • Solution for intravenous administration: clear, colorless liquid (in 5 ml ampoules, 5 ampoules in plastic pallets, 1 pallet in a cardboard box);
  • Tablets: white, biconvex, engraved with "A / mE" on one side (100 pcs. In plastic bottles).

The active substance is metoprolol tartrate:

  • 1 ml of solution - 1 mg;
  • 1 tablet - 100 mg.

Excipients:

  • Solution: sodium chloride, water for injection;
  • Tablets: lactose monohydrate, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, sodium carboxymethyl starch, povidone.

Indications for use

  • Arterial hypertension (to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of coronary and cardiovascular death, including sudden death);
  • Cardiac arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardia;
  • Angina pectoris;
  • Functional disorders of cardiac activity, accompanied by tachycardia.

The drug is also used:

  • For the prevention of migraine attacks;
  • As part of complex therapy after myocardial infarction and hyperthyroidism.

Contraindications

  • Atrioventricular block II and III degree;
  • Heart failure in the stage of decompensation;
  • Clinically significant sinus bradycardia;
  • Sick sinus syndrome;
  • Cardiogenic shock;
  • Severe peripheral circulatory disorders;
  • Serious peripheral vascular disease with a threat of gangrene;
  • Arterial hypotension;
  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Betalok is not prescribed to patients: receiving prolonged or intermittent treatment with inotropic drugs acting on beta-adrenergic receptors; taking β-blockers (for intravenous administration); with acute myocardial infarction; under the age of 18.

Caution is required by the use of Betalok in the following diseases / conditions:

  • Diabetes;
  • 1st degree atrioventricular block;
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including pulmonary emphysema, chronic obstructive bronchitis, bronchial asthma;
  • Prinzmetal's angina;
  • Severe renal failure.

Method of administration and dosage

Solution for intravenous administration

With supraventricular tachycardia, Betaloc is usually used in the form of a solution for intravenous injection, starting from 5 mg at an injection rate of 1-2 mg / min. Until a therapeutic effect is achieved, the administration can be repeated at 5-minute intervals. As a rule, the total dosage is 10-15 mg, maximum 20 mg.

For the prevention and treatment of tachycardia, myocardial ischemia and pain in myocardial infarction or suspicion of it, 5 mg of Betaloc is administered intravenously. If necessary, the introduction is repeated at 2-minute intervals. The maximum dosage is 15 mg.

Tablets

Betalok in tablet form can be administered independently from the meal. The scheme of application is determined by the indications:

  • Arterial hypertension: 100-200 mg daily once or in 2 divided doses. If necessary, it is possible to increase the dosage or use Betaloc simultaneously with another antihypertensive agent;
  • Angina pectoris: 100-200 mg per day in 2 divided doses (alone or simultaneously with another antianginal drug);
  • Hyperthyroidism: 150-200 mg daily, divided into 3-4 doses
  • Heart rhythm disturbances: 100-200 mg daily in 2 divided doses (alone or simultaneously with another antiarrhythmic drug);
  • Functional cardiac abnormalities, accompanied by tachycardia: 100 mg per day, once, preferably in the morning.

When carrying out maintenance therapy after myocardial infarction, Betalok is prescribed 100 mg per day in 2 divided doses (in the morning and evening).

For the prevention of migraine attacks, the drug must be taken in the morning and in the evening, the daily dosage is 100-200 mg.

Elderly people and patients with impaired renal function do not need dosage adjustment. If the liver function is severely impaired, a dosage reduction may be required.

The experience of using Betalok in children is limited.

Side effects

Usually Betaloc is well tolerated by patients, side effects are mild and reversible:

  • Central nervous system: often - increased fatigue, headaches and dizziness; sometimes - depression, nightmares, insomnia or increased sleepiness, convulsions, paresthesia; possibly - anxiety, impotence, increased nervous irritability;
  • Cardiovascular system: bradycardia, cold extremities, postural disorders, palpitations; sometimes - cardiogenic shock (in patients with acute myocardial infarction), increased symptoms of heart failure; very rarely - gangrene (with severe impairment of peripheral circulation);
  • Respiratory system: possible - shortness of breath, bronchospasm (in patients with bronchial asthma), rhinitis;
  • Metabolism: possibly - an increase in body weight;
  • Skin and allergic reactions: urticaria, excessive sweating; sometimes - exacerbation of psoriasis, hair loss;
  • Digestive system: possibly - nausea, diarrhea or constipation, pain in the abdomen;
  • Hematopoietic system: in some cases - the occurrence of thrombocytopenia.

When using Betalok, dizziness and general weakness may develop, and therefore during therapy it is recommended to refrain from driving.
