Beklazon is a glucocorticoid drug used in the treatment of bronchial asthma.

Release form and composition

Beklazon is produced in the form of an aerosol (in aluminum cylinders with an inhalation device, in 1 cylinder - 200 doses).

Active substance: beclomethasone dipropionate, in 1 dose of the drug - 50 μg, 100 μg or 250 μg.

Indications for use

The active substance of the drug has a pronounced anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and anti-exudative effect. As a result of the use of Beklazon, the secretion of mucus by the bronchial glands and the edema of the epithelium are reduced, the indicators of the function of external respiration are improved.

The drug is recommended to be used regularly, regardless of seizures. The therapeutic effect of the drug develops gradually, improvement usually occurs within a week after the start of therapy.

Beklazon is prescribed:

  • Prevention of exacerbations of bronchial asthma and its treatment with the ineffectiveness of therapy with bronchodilators and sodium cromoglycate in combination with bronchodilators;
  • Treatment of hormone-dependent bronchial asthma.

The drug does not relieve bronchospasm.

Contraindications

  • Tuberculosis;
  • Severe attacks of bronchial asthma requiring intensive care;
  • I trimester of pregnancy;
  • Children under 4 years old;
  • Hypersensitivity to drug components.

In the II and III trimesters of pregnancy, as well as during lactation, Beklazon should be used with caution.

Method of administration and dosage

At the beginning of treatment, the dose of Beklazon is selected individually by the doctor, who takes into account the severity of the disease. When treating bronchial asthma, children over 12 years of age and adults are usually prescribed:

  • With mild course - 200 mcg 2 times a day;
  • With moderate severity - 600-800 mcg per day, divided into 2-4 doses;
  • In severe cases, a maximum dose of 1 mg can be used, which is also divided into 2-4 inhalations.

The initial dose of Beklazon for children 4-12 years old is 50-100 mcg 2 times a day, if necessary, the dose can be increased to 400 mcg, dividing into 2-4 inhalations. The maximum daily recommended dose for children is 500 mcg.

After using the drug, rinse your mouth with water to avoid a sore throat or irritation.

Beklazon, if necessary, can be used simultaneously with sodium cromoglycate, bronchodilators and antibiotics.

Side effects

When used in the recommended doses, Beklazon does not cause side effects typical of glucocorticoid drugs. Most often, hoarseness, sneezing and coughing may occur during treatment.

With prolonged use of Beklazon in high doses, candidiasis of the upper respiratory tract and oral cavity, as well as latent adrenal insufficiency, can develop.

special instructions

If paradoxical bronchospasm occurs, Beklazon is immediately canceled and, after assessing the patient's condition, other drugs are prescribed.

With prolonged use of any inhaled glucocorticosteroids, especially in high doses, systemic effects may develop, although the likelihood of their occurrence is much lower than when such drugs are taken orally. Therefore, when a therapeutic effect is achieved, the dosage of inhaled glucocorticosteroids should be reduced to the minimum effective dose that controls the course of the disease.

You should regularly monitor the growth dynamics of children who use Beklazon for a long time.

Abrupt withdrawal of the drug is not recommended.

Special care must be taken when using the drug in patients with inactive or active forms of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Protect your eyes from contact with Beklazon. To prevent damage to the skin of the eyelids and nose, you can wash your face after inhalation.
