Gedelix is a herbal preparation with mucolytic, antispasmodic and expectorant effects.
Release form and composition
Gedelix is available in the following dosage forms:
- Drops for oral administration: brownish transparent liquid with a fragrant odor, at the bottom of the bottle after prolonged storage, a precipitate may form, causing the drug to become cloudy when agitated (50 ml in dark glass dropper bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box);
- Syrup: thickish liquid from yellow-brown to yellow color with a peculiar odor, possible turbidity of the drug and precipitation (100 ml each in dark glass dropper bottles or vials, 1 bottle each in a cardboard box complete with a measuring spoon (spoon)).
The composition of 100 ml drops includes:
- Active substance: ivy leaf extract (2.2-2.9: 1) - 4 g;
- Auxiliary components: propylene glycol - 83.69 g; glycerol - 20 g; peppermint oil - 0.03 g; flavoring (100 g contains: star anise oil - 47.95 g; levomenthol - 27.4 g; eucalyptus oil - 24.65 g) - 0.13 g.
The composition of 100 ml of syrup includes:
- Active substance: ivy leaf extract (2.2-2.9: 1) - 0.8 g;
- Auxiliary components: hyetellose - 0.15 g; propylene glycol - 13.877 g; macrogol glyceryl hydroxystearate - 0.5 g; star anise fruit oil - 0.015 g; glycerol - 10 g; 70% sorbitol solution (non-crystallizing) - 50 g; purified water - 39.9605 g.
Indications for use
Gedelix is prescribed as an expectorant in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the bronchi and upper respiratory tract, which is accompanied by a cough with sputum difficult to separate.
Contraindications
- Lack of arginine succinate synthetase;
- Hypersensitivity to drug components.
Additionally, contraindications to the use of Gedelix in the form of drops are:
- Predisposition to laryngospasm;
- Bronchial asthma;
- Age up to 2 years.
The drug in the form of a syrup is not prescribed for patients with hereditary fructose intolerance.
It is not recommended for lactating and pregnant women to use Gedelix (due to insufficient clinical data).
Method of administration and dosage
Gedelix is taken orally after meals.
If the doctor has not prescribed another regimen of use, Gedelix in the form of drops should be taken 3 times a day in the following doses (single / daily dose):
- Adults and children from 10 years old - 31/93 drops;
- Children 4-10 years old - 21/63 drops;
- Children 2-4 years old - 16/48 drops.
The drops should be taken undiluted with a sufficient amount of water (up to 200-250 ml). Shake the bottle with the drug before use.
If the doctor has not prescribed another regimen of use, Gedelix in the form of a syrup is taken in the following doses (single / daily dose):
- Adults and children from 10 years old - 5/15 ml, frequency of administration - 3 times a day;
- Children 4-10 years old - 2.5 / 10 ml, frequency of administration - 4 times a day;
- Children 1-4 years old - 2.5 / 7.5 ml, frequency of administration - 3 times a day;
- Children under 1 year old - 2.5 / 2.5 ml, frequency of administration - 1 time per day.
The package with the drug contains a measuring spoon corresponding to 5 ml.
Syrup is recommended for adolescents and adults to be taken undiluted. For small children and babies, the drug should be diluted with a little water.
The duration of taking Gedelix is determined by the severity of the disease. The therapeutic course should not be less than 7 days. It is recommended to continue taking the drug for another 2-3 days after the symptoms of the disease disappear.
Side effects
During therapy, the development of such side effects is possible: allergic reactions, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, in some cases - pain in the epigastric region.
If these side effects worsen or if any other violations not specified in the instructions develop, you should consult a doctor.

If there is no improvement within 4-5 days of therapy or with an increase in body temperature, the appearance of purulent sputum or asthma attacks, you should immediately consult a doctor.
The syrup does not contain sugar, so it can be taken by patients with diabetes mellitus. 1 scoop (5 ml) contains 1.75 g of sorbitol (0.44 g of fructose), which corresponds to 0.15 bread units (XE).
Drug interactions
Simultaneously, Gedelix should not be used with antitussive drugs, as this may make it difficult to drain sputum liquefied during therapy.
