Furacilin ointment is an antimicrobial drug.
Release form and composition
The dosage form of the drug is 0.2% ointment (25 g each in a dark glass can, 1 can in a cardboard box).
The composition of the ointment (in 100 g):
- active substance: nitrofural - 0.2 g;
- auxiliary component: petroleum jelly.
Pharmacological properties
Nitrofural is a nitrofuran derivative that has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (including Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens).
There is no clinically significant resistance to the drug.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Furacilin ointment is used in the following conditions:
- bedsores;
- burns of II – III degree;
- purulent wounds;
- frostbite II – III degree;
- superficial damage to the skin (scratches, cuts, abrasions, cracks);
- conjunctivitis;
- blepharitis;
- osteomyelitis;
- empyema of the paranasal sinuses;
- urinary tract infections;
- acute otitis media (external and middle);
- acute tonsillitis;
- stomatitis;
