Polcortolon TS, instructions for use: method and dosage
Aerosol Polcortolon TS is applied externally: the affected areas of the skin are irrigated with a stream of the drug, holding the bottle at a distance of about 15–20 cm for 3 seconds.
The bottle must be shaken before use, while spraying - keep in an upright position.
For adults, treatment of skin lesions should be carried out 2-4 times a day, observing approximately the same time intervals. The course of treatment depends on the type of disease and its severity. On average, therapy lasts from 5 to 10 days, in severe cases it can be extended up to 25 days.
For children over 3 years old, the drug is sprayed once a day. Polcortolone TS in this category of patients can be used for a short time and only on small areas of the body.
Side effects
When using the drug on small areas of the skin and for a short time, significant side effects do not develop.
Some patients experience skin irritation, itching, and purpura.
In rare cases of long-term treatment or the use of an aerosol under occlusive dressings, the following undesirable reactions develop: dry skin, acne, skin atrophy, pigmentation, photosensitivity, telangiectasia, inhibition of epidermal growth, post-steroidal vascular purpura, increased hair growth, secondary infections.
With prolonged use of Polcortolone TS on large areas of the skin, the incidence of some side effects characteristic of glucocorticosteroids increases: peripheral edema, hyperglycemia, arterial hypertension, immunosuppressive effect.
Overdose
With proper external use of the aerosol, overdose is rare. However, overdose symptoms can develop if the drug is used incorrectly or for a long time on large areas of the body. These include signs characteristic of systemic glucocorticosteroids, including suppression of the pituitary-adrenal function.
special instructions
Aerosol Polcortolon TS is not recommended for use longer than 4 weeks.
When spraying the drug, you should take precautions: do not inhale the aerosol, and also protect your eyes. If the product accidentally gets into your eyes, rinse them immediately with clean warm water.
Polcortolone TS should be used with extreme caution on the skin of the face, since the absorption of the drug is enhanced in this area, which increases the risk of side effects (skin atrophy, telangiectasia, perioral dermatitis) even with short-term treatment.
Carefully therapy should be carried out in patients, especially the elderly, with existing atrophic skin changes.
Tetracycline, which is part of the aerosol, with prolonged use, can cause the growth of resistant strains of staphylococci and Candida albicans, which requires appropriate therapy. Also, this antibiotic can cause the development of photosensitization. In this regard, it is recommended to protect the skin areas treated with the drug from direct sunlight.
During the period of therapy, vaccination should not be carried out.
If you develop any side effects or skin irritation, you should immediately consult a doctor.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
Polcortolon TS does not adversely affect the mental and physical abilities of a person to drive a car and work with complex mechanisms.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Polcortolone TS is contraindicated for pregnant women in the first trimester. At a later date, the doctor may prescribe the drug only if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risks.
It is not known whether the active substances of the aerosol are excreted in breast milk, therefore, during lactation, Polcortolon TS can be used only after assessing the ratio of benefits to the mother and the risk of developing adverse reactions in the child. If treatment is clinically justified, the aerosol should be applied to small areas of the skin for a short time, avoiding the treatment of the skin of the mammary glands.
Pediatric use
- up to 3 years: the use of the drug is contraindicated;
- over 3 years: Polcortolone TS should be used in a limited manner (for a short time on small areas of the skin), since with prolonged use in high doses, corticosteroids can affect the growth and development of the child.
