Uroderm is an external preparation that has a keratolytic effect.
Release form and composition
The dosage form of Uroderma is an ointment for external use: homogeneous, white, may have the smell of ammonia (10, 15, 20 or 35 g in aluminum tubes, in a cardboard box 1 tube).
Composition of 10 mg ointment:
- active substance: urea - 3 mg;
- auxiliary components: 95% ethanol - 1 mg; emulsion wax - 0.6 mg; glycerol - 1 mg; liquid paraffin - 0.6 mg; glycine - 0.02 mg; purified water - up to 10 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Urea has a keratolytic effect. When applied externally, the drug helps to soften, moisturize the skin and increase its elasticity.
Indications for use
- skin diseases proceeding with excessive keratosis, including follicular keratosis, ichthyosis and ichthyosiform dermatoses, psoriasis, keratoderma, chronic eczema, Deverji's disease, hyperkeratotic forms of fungal diseases, as well as dry skin, callousness (in combination with other drugs);
- warts (before removal to soften the skin and remove horny layers);
- ingrown nail, onychomycosis, onychogryphosis, onychodystrophy, hard nails (in order to soften the nail plates to facilitate their processing and cutting).
Contraindications
A contraindication to the use of Uroderm is the presence of an individual intolerance to its components.
Patients with cardiovascular and renal or hepatic insufficiency should not apply ointment to large areas.
During pregnancy and lactation, Uroderm is prescribed with caution.
Instructions for use of Uroderm: method and dosage
Uroderm ointment is applied externally.
Recommended dosage regimen:
- skin diseases occurring with excessive keratinization (ichthyosis, ichthyosiform dermatoses, keratoderma, psoriasis, chronic eczema, Deverji's disease, follicular keratosis, calcification), dry skin: the ointment should be applied in a thin layer on the area of accumulation of horny layers 2 times a day; in cases of severe peeling, an occlusive dressing may be used. Before applying the preparation, cracks, abrasions, erosion, superficial wounds and crusts should be treated with antiseptics. The therapy is carried out until the removal of horny layers;
- hyperkeratotic forms of fungal diseases: Uroderm should be applied 20-30 minutes before using antifungal external agents;
- warts: the ointment is applied under an adhesive plaster for 2–8 hours, after which, before removing the wart, its softened part is cut off;
- ingrown nail, onychomycosis, onychogryphosis, onychodystrophy, hard nails: to facilitate the processing and cutting of nails, Uroderm is applied to the nails for 20–30 minutes; in cases of significant thickening of the nails, the ointment can be applied 2 times a day under an adhesive plaster (processing is carried out after softening).
The duration of therapy for skin diseases depends on the severity and localization of the process; the course can be several weeks. In order to facilitate the processing and cutting of nails, the ointment can be applied 2-3 times a month; in such cases, the duration of its use is not limited.
Side effects
When using Uroderm in the acute period of a skin disease, in some cases, itching and redness of the skin in the area of application of the drug may increase (until the severity of the process decreases, a temporary withdrawal of the drug is required).
Allergic reactions are possible.

Uroderm should not be applied to mucous membranes.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Pregnant women should consult a doctor before using Uroderm. Applying the ointment to large areas is not recommended.
For women during lactation, before prescribing the drug, it is necessary to correlate the expected benefit with the possible risk.
With impaired renal function
According to the instructions, Uroderm with renal failure should not be applied to large surfaces.
For violations of liver function
Uroderm for liver failure should not be applied to large surfaces.
Drug interactions
Urea loosens the stratum corneum of the skin, which creates conditions for increasing the resorption of other external agents and enhances their action.
Uroderm ointment can be alternated (morning / evening) with any other drugs for external use, except for keratolytic (salicylic ointment).
