Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Terbix is a drug for external use with a wide range of antifungal activity. Terbinafine has the specific property of disrupting the early sterol biosynthesis that occurs in fungi. This leads to a deficiency of ergosterol, accumulation of squalene inside the cells and death of the fungal cell. The mechanism of action of terbinafine is due to the inhibition of the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is located on the cell membrane of the fungus.
In insignificant concentrations, terbinafine exhibits a fungicidal effect against molds (mainly Candida albicans) and dimorphic fungi Pityrosporum orbiculare, dermatophytes - Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton cannabisum, Trichophyton violaceton, Trichophyton cannaceum, Trichophyton tons Depending on the type of yeast fungi, activity against them can be fungicidal or fungistatic in nature.
Terbinafine does not affect the cytochrome P 450 system in humans, the metabolism of hormones or other drugs.
Pharmacokinetics
The systemic effect of terbinafine when applied externally is insignificant, its absorption is less than 5%.
Indications for use
The use of all dosage forms of Terbix is indicated for the prevention and treatment of the following diseases:
- fungal lesions of the smooth skin of the body, feet and groin caused by dermatophytes of the genus Trichophyton (including Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton violaceum), Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis;
- tinea versicolor caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare or Malassezia furfur.
In addition, the cream is prescribed for yeast infections of the skin, including diaper rash, caused by the genus Candida (including Candida albicans).
