Azicide is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the group of azalides (macrolide subgroup), active against some gram-positive cocci, streptococci, gram-negative bacteria, anaerobic microorganisms; not effective in diseases caused by gram-positive bacteria resistant to erythromycin.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - coated tablets: white, round biconvex - 250 mg; white, oblong - 500 mg (3 pcs. in a blister, in a cardboard box 1 or 2 blisters).

Indications for use
Azicide is used to treat diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin:
- Angina, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media (ENT organs and upper respiratory tract);
- Bronchitis, pneumonia - bacterial and atypical (lower respiratory tract);
- Impetigo, erysipelas, secondarily infected dermatoses (skin and soft tissues);
- Uncomplicated urethritis and / or cervicitis (urogenital tract);
- Erythema creeping (erythema migrans) - the initial stage of borreliosis (Lyme disease);
- Scarlet fever;
- Diseases of the stomach and duodenum associated with Helicobacter Pylori (as part of complex therapy).
Contraindications
Absolute:
- Renal / hepatic impairment;
- Children under 3 years of age or body weight less than 25 kg;
- Lactation period (or feeding should be suspended);
- Hypersensitivity to any component of Azicide or other macrolides.
Relative (you need to be careful when taking the drug):
- Arrhythmia;
- Pregnancy;
- Severe renal / liver dysfunction in children.
Method of administration and dosage
Azicide should be taken orally 1 time a day, between meals - 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after.
Recommended dosing regimens for adults:

- Acute urinary tract infections: 1000 mg once;
- Erythema migrans: 1st day - 1000 mg once a day, 2-5 days - 500 mg once a day;
- Peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer associated with Helicobacter Pylori (in combination therapy): 1000 mg / day for 3 days.
The dose for children is determined depending on their weight: 10 mg / kg 1 time per day for 3 days or 10 mg / kg on the first day, for the next 3-4 days - 5-10 mg / kg / day.
With erythema, creeping children are prescribed: 1st day - 20 mg / kg, 2-5 days - 10 mg / kg.
Side effects
- Digestive system: often (more than 3% of cases) - nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea; rarely (less than 1% of cases) - melena, flatulence, dyspepsia, vomiting, increased activity of hepatic transaminases, cholestatic jaundice; in children - gastritis, anorexia, constipation;
- Cardiovascular system: rarely - chest pain, heart palpitations;
- Nervous system: rarely - headache, vertigo, drowsiness; in children - anxiety, sleep disturbance, neurosis, hyperkinesia, headache (in the treatment of otitis media);

special instructions
If the next dose is missed, the missed dose should be taken as soon as possible, and the subsequent doses should be taken at 24-hour intervals.
With the simultaneous administration of antacids between doses of drugs, a break of ≥2 hours should be observed.
In some patients, after discontinuation of Azicide, hypersensitivity reactions may persist, which require specific therapy under medical supervision.
Drug interactions
Food, ethanol and antacids containing magnesium or aluminum slow down and reduce the absorption of azithromycin.
Lincosamines reduce the effectiveness of Azicide, tetracycline and chloramphenicol increase.
Azithromycin, with simultaneous use, increases the concentration of digoxin, enhances the toxic effect of ergotamine and dihydroergotamine, reduces clearance and enhances the pharmacological effect of triazolam.
Azithromycin slows down excretion, which increases the plasma concentration and toxicity of the following drugs: indirect anticoagulants, felodipine, cycloserine, methylprednisolone, as well as drugs that undergo microsomal oxidation, such as ergot alkaloids, oral hypoglycemic agents, valprynadalic acid, galexa, terbphocromycin, disopyramide, phenytoin, cyclosporine, carbamazepine, theophylline and other xanthine derivatives.
Since macrolides enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, a similar effect can be expected with the simultaneous use of azithromycin, therefore, when using this combination, it is necessary to control the prothrombin time.
Analogs
Analogues of Azicide are: Azivok, Azivon, Azilid, Azimycin, Azitral, Azitrox, Azithromycin, Zetamax, Zitrolide, Zitrocin, Sumazid, Sumaclid, Sumamed.
