Septolete is an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial drug for local use in dental and otorhinolaryngological practice.

Release form and composition

The drug is available in the form of lozenges: round, biconvex, light green, white blotches are possible (10 pieces in blisters, 3 blisters in a cardboard box; 15 pieces in blisters, in a cardboard box 2 blisters and instructions for use of the Septolet).

Composition of 1 lozenge:

  • active ingredients: levomenthol - 1.2 mg, benzalkonium chloride - 1 mg, peppermint oil - 1 mg, thymol - 0.6 mg, eucalyptus oil - 0.6 mg;
  • auxiliary components: glycerol, dextrose (glucose) liquid (dry matter), povidone, lactose monohydrate, sucrose, liquid paraffin, emulsion wax, antifoam 1510, magnesium stearate, sorbitol, titanium dioxide, castor oil, indigo carmine blue dye, quinoline yellow dye.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Septolet is a combined drug, its effectiveness is determined by the properties of the active ingredients:

  • benzalkonium chloride and thymol: have an antiseptic effect (are active against gram-positive bacteria, Candida albicans and some lipophilic viruses have a fungicidal effect);
  • Eucalyptus essential oil: helps to reduce mucus secretion in the upper respiratory tract and to facilitate breathing;
  • peppermint essential oil and menthol: have a moderate deodorant and analgesic effect.

Indications for use

Septolet is used for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the throat and oral cavity, namely:

  • laryngitis;
  • pharyngitis;
  • tonsillitis;
  • stomatitis;
  • gingivitis.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of the drug are:

  • congenital fructose intolerance, galactosemia, isomaltase enzyme deficiency, lactase enzyme deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption;
  • children under 4 years of age;
  • hypersensitivity to the main or auxiliary components of the drug.

Septolet, instructions for use: method and dosage

Septolete pastilles are intended for topical use. They should be slowly absorbed in the mouth until they are completely dissolved. The recommended dose is one lozenge every 2-3 hours.

Maximum daily doses:

  • children 4–10 years old - 4 lozenges;
  • children 10–12 years old - 6 lozenges;
  • children over 12 years old and adult patients - 8 lozenges.

Lozenges are not recommended to be taken with meals or with milk.

Side effects

Possible side effects from the digestive system (diarrhea, nausea) and allergic reactions with individual hypersensitivity to the components of Septolete.

Overdose

The likelihood of developing an overdose is minimal.

The main symptoms are nausea, diarrhea, vomiting.

Therapy: symptomatic.

Information for patients with diabetes mellitus: each lozenge contains sugar (glucose, sucrose) in the amount of 174.5 mg.

Information for patients with galactosemia, congenital fructose intolerance, isomaltase / sucrase deficiency, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption: each lozenge contains 152.7 mg sorbitol, 218 mg lactose and 623.575 mg sucrose.

Milk reduces the antiseptic effect of benzalkonium chloride, therefore, the simultaneous use of Septolete with this product is not recommended.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Treatment with the drug does not affect the patient's ability to drive motor vehicles and other vehicles and work with potentially dangerous mechanisms.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

For women during pregnancy and during breastfeeding, the drug can only be taken on the recommendation of a doctor.

Pediatric use

For patients under 4 years of age, the drug is not prescribed.

Drug interactions

Septolet is not recommended to be used simultaneously with other antiseptic preparations intended for absorption in the oral cavity.
