The therapeutic effect of the active components of the drug:
- salbutamol: a bronchodilator that stimulates β2-adrenergic receptors of the bronchi, prevents or relieves bronchospasm;
- bromhexine: a mucolytic that has an expectorant and weak antitussive effect, which reduces the viscosity of sputum by depolarizing acidic mucopolysaccharides and stimulating the secretory cells of the bronchial mucosa, which activates the cilia of the ciliated epithelium, which improves sputum discharge;
- guaifenesin: an anxiolytic that reduces the degree of surface tension and adhesive properties of sputum, increases the serous component of bronchial secretions, reduces the viscosity of sputum, activates the bronchial ciliary apparatus, facilitates the removal of sputum and promotes the transformation of an unproductive cough into a productive one;
- menthol: an organic substance, an antiseptic with a moderate antispasmodic and sedative effect, gently stimulating the secretion of the bronchial glands, reducing irritation of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract.
The presence of guaifenesin in the syrup contributes to the staining of urine in pink.
It is not recommended to take the drug with an alkaline drink.
Drug interactions
- β2-adrenergic agonists, theophylline, other xanthines: increase the likelihood of tachyarrhythmias;
- tricyclic antidepressants, MAO inhibitors: enhance the effect of salbutamol, probably a sharp decrease in blood pressure;
- glucocorticosteroids (GCS), diuretics: enhance the hypokalemic effect of salbutamol;
- codeine-containing drugs, other antitussives: make it difficult to pass the liquefied sputum;
