Permikson is a herbal medicine with antiandrogenic, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory and angioprotective action, which is used in the treatment of functional urinary disorders associated with prostate adenoma.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms of release:

• Film-coated tablets: green (in blisters of 15 pcs., 2 or 4 packages in a cardboard box);
• Capsules: light green, size 1; the capsules contain a pasty greenish substance, which has a characteristic odor (in blisters, 15 pcs., 2 packages in a cardboard box).

Composition of 1 coated tablet:

• Active ingredient: Serenoa repens fruits (lipidosterol extract) - 0.08 g;
• Auxiliary components: magnesium carbonate, magnesium stearate, glycerin, polyvidone, colloidal silica, wheat starch, kaolin, methylated casein, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, quinoline yellow, indigo carmine.

Composition of 1 capsule:

• Active ingredient: Serenoa repens fruits (lipidosterol extract) - 0.16 g;
• Auxiliary components: gelatin, polyethylene glycol (macrogol 10,000), indigo carmine, titanium dioxide, yellow iron oxide.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Permikson has a complex effect on the pathogenesis and symptoms characteristic of benign prostatic hyperplasia, which is explained by the complementary properties of the constituent components of this plant extract. Its antiandrogenic, antiproliferative, decongestant and anti-inflammatory effects are selectively manifested at the level of the prostate gland. At the same time, the drug does not change the concentration of sex hormones in the blood, does not affect the content of serum PSA (prostate-specific antigen) and does not lead to a deterioration in potency, libido and sexual functions. The local antiandrogenic effect of Permikson is due to the inhibition of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase types I and II, which is responsible for converting testosterone in the prostate gland into its pharmacologically active form - dihydrotestosterone,and a decrease in the binding of the latter to specific receptors. The consequence of a decrease in the synthesis of dihydrotestosterone is the inhibition of further growth of the prostate volume.

Local anti-inflammatory effect is associated with the effect of lipidosterol extract of creeping palm on the most important mediators of cellular inflammation (it weakens the activity of lipoxygenase, cyclooxygenase and phospholipase A ₂). During the first weeks of therapy, the drug reduces vascular stasis, reduces capillary permeability, improves urodynamic parameters like alpha-blockers, eliminates edema and inflammation in the prostate, helps to get rid of compression of the urinary tract and bladder neck. The local antiproliferative effect of Permikson is expressed in a decrease in the activity of growth factors (primarily fibroblastic and epidermal) and an intensification of the processes of apoptosis of prostate cells, which is accompanied by a slowdown in growth and a subsequent decrease in the volume of the prostate gland. The above characteristics of Permikson provide a decrease in the severity of pathological symptoms, which is accompanied by benign prostatic hyperplasia (incomplete emptying of the bladder, dysuria, nocturia, pollakiuria,painful sensations and a feeling of tension during urination), as well as an increase in the volume and intensity of urination.
